The United Nations
What are the United Nations?
„WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS DETERMINED TO SAVE SUCCEEDING GENERATIONS FROM THE SCOURGE OF WAR, WHICH TWICE IN OUR LIFETIME HAS BROUGHT UNTOLD SORROW TO MANKIND HAVE RESOLVED TO COMBINE OUR EFFORTS TO ACCOMPLISH THESE AIMS.“
– Preamble of the UN-Charter
These are the first words of the UN founding charter. The United Nations is an International Organization, founded in 1945 in San Francisco (USA). Today it consists of 193 different member states and two observer states. All member states are dealing and negotiating here as nations with each other about many different topics. By that, the UN is the only organization worldwide which is able to claim universal acceptance and legitimacy. Its main goals? International peace and security, equality of all member states, peaceful conflict resolution, prohibition of violence and international and friendly cooperation.
The UN Club Fulda is not only committed to the norms and values of the UN. We regularly discuss relevant topics and participate in MUNs to gain a deep understanding of the work of the most important International Organization of our time.
What is a Model United Nations?
Model United Nations are worldwide simulations of the work of the United Nations, in which students from all over the world participate and represent an assigned country in current political issues in one of the UN committees. The simulation consists of formal debates and informal sessions were students give diplomatic speeches, negotiate with other delegations, and draft resolutions.
