Work Package 3: Rethinking Europe in the World

The CoE WorldEU focuses on advancing scholarly exchange and fostering a collaborative community to explore Europe’s role in the world. By connecting international researchers, policy-makers, and scholars, Work Package 3 aims to deepen understanding of Europe’s position globally.

Objectives:

  • Six-way Knowledge Transfer: Facilitate the exchange of ideas and research between EU-based and non-EU-based scholars, policy-makers, and citizens, ensuring mutual understanding and long-term knowledge transfer.
  • Comprehensive Academic Agenda: Pursue an extensive research agenda on topics like "Europe in the World: Concepts, Ideas, Controversies," "Europe in the World: Governing in the Anthropocene," and "Europe in the World: Democracy, Autocracy, and Changing Global Orders."

  • Research Debates: Stimulate discussions and debates among international researchers, encouraging collaboration and addressing key questions related to Europe in the world.

  • Academic Expertise: Enhance academic expertise by providing a platform for researchers to share insights and engage in joint publications and projects.

  • Collaborative Community: Build a community of researchers across disciplines, including International Relations, European Studies, History, Postcolonial Studies, and Social and Political Theory.

Key Activities :

  • Yearly International Workshop - A yearly workshop for international researchers to discuss relevant academic questions related to Europe’s role in the world. Themes include governance, democracy, and global order.
  • Regular Discussion Events - Regular events that facilitate discussions between academics, policy-makers, civil servants, and civil society on key topics related to Europe in the world.
  • Early Career Researchers' Workshop - An online workshop for Ph.D. students and young researchers focusing on research design, methods, and practices in the study of Europe in the world. The course includes coaching, feedback, and mutual discussion of research designs.
